Diamond’s Children

Don protégé
How many of us have mental health issues in our families? Among our fundraising team, two of us have parents who suffer from mental health disorders, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Our parents or caregivers are often far from perfect. They may be dealing with their own problems, especially if mental health issues are in the mix.

We’re a small group of Diamond’s loved ones and friends—we’re a sister, a brother, and a community. We’ve come together to bring attention to his situation and to reach out to our networks for support on Diamond’s behalf.

Because of a really rough start, Diamond has dealt with developmental difficulties his entire life. He’s also a father of three young children. He’s unable to provide for them because he’s sentenced to serve 19 years in prison.

Diamond’s sister, Lydia Tremayne, wrote this detailed account of the incidents leading up to Diamond’s imprisonment. There’s also a film that social justice organization Silicon Valley De-Bug created, which was shown at Diamond’s trial.

The judge still sentenced Diamond to 19 years.

We started this GoFundMe campaign to raise money for these three little kids—ages 6, 7, and 9—and their two moms.

Lydia’s story

Diamond Adams is a young man who’s truly been dealt a terrible hand by the San Francisco judicial system. Diamond was initially charged and convicted of a crime he didn’t commit—he wasn’t even at the scene. Still, he served two years.

As a result of that conviction, he received many more years on a new case, the result of something called “enhancements.”

A group of young men targeted and assaulted Diamond. He was jumped and badly beaten. Three days after the assault, Diamond ran into one of these young men again, along with two others. He was afraid and acted in self-defense, stabbing one of the boys.

Diamond was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 19 years. Most of that time was due to the enhancements from the prior charge, which, in reality, he had nothing to do with. Also, he wasn’t on any parole or probation for that prior offense at the time of the self-defense incident.

Unfortunately, Diamond leaves his three sons behind having to be raised by single mothers. Diamond was a wonderful dad to his three boys. The women now have to do it alone. On behalf of these children, I’m asking if you could donate money to support the boys and their moms. The money would go into a fund to help the children get to college. A portion would go to their daily needs.

We’re fighting hard to bring Diamond home. This is another way we’re trying to help in the meantime.

Thank you.

A new hope

Many of you really understand how this racist criminal justice system is anything but just, and how it tears families apart.

Maria Breaux, Lydia Tremayne, and Marques Adams are working with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office to re-open the sentencing in Diamond’s case. We’re hopeful because the biased law that enhances sentencing for individuals with prior convictions has recently been repealed in San Francisco (some good news!). And, we think certain facts of the case didn’t come to light during his trial. Please send out hopes, prayers, spells, incantations, whatever you got, for Diamond’s lenient re-sentencing!

And please consider donating generously to this campaign for Diamond’s children: Literature, Elijah, and Diamond Jr.

Let’s help these kiddos have a stronger foundation than Diamond had.

Thank you so much.
