Devastation of Hurricane Melissa – Aunty Claira story

My widowed aunt, Aunty Claira Powell, who lives in Manchester, Jamaica, has lost nearly everything after the devastating Hurricane Melissa. The storm tore the roof off her home and destroyed much of what she owned.

I am standing in the gap for her — every dollar raised will go directly to help her rebuild and recover. Funds will go toward essential materials and labour — including structural repairs, lumber/ plywood, roofing, concrete/ cement and blocks. Other cost of tools, and skilled workers needed to make her home safe and livable again.

Aunty Claira is one of the most caring and compassionate persons I know — a retired librarian who dedicated her life to supporting children and adults in her community.

I see her kindness firsthand. Even when she has little resources, she still shares what she has with others.

Hurricane Melissa has left her without a roof, comfort and security at this present time. And without many of the things she’s worked her whole life to build. It’s heartbreaking to see someone who has spent her life giving to others now face such loss.

Now she needs financial help to rebuild, bring hope, comfort, and stability back into a devasting life. Other family members are impacted by the hurricane.

She a is deeply humbled and grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support. The money raised will be beneficial to Claira and her family.
