Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. Symptoms are chronic and degenerative. As the disease progresses, walking, swallowing and talking become difficult. Also prevalent are mental and behavioural changes, sleep problems, depression, memory difficulties, and fatigue.

Exercise in general helps ease the symptoms, but golf in particular helps with balance, flexibility, hand-eye coordination strength and fitness, as well as providing a safe social environment amongst friends which helps with mental health issues, social confidence etc.

The Sport Parkinson’s Four Nations Golf Tournament brings the Parkinson’s golf community together for two days of competitive golf every year. Points from both days are added together to crown the winning Nation.

In 2022 the tournament raised £140K which was ploughed back into the Parkinson's community to support important research headed up by Cure Parkinson's and to provide access to sport and exercise for all.

The donations raised by the Welsh team this year will go towards supporting the Sandville Self Help Centre, a fantastic charity based in Porthcawl, South Wales which provides invaluable care and support for people suffering from this life changing illness, and their carers.

Please give what you can. Your donation really will make a difference.
