Desirée & Dallas' Family Journey

When I asked Desirée why she and Dallas have persevered through so many heartbreaks, she shared:

“From the very beginning, both of our lives were shaped by love, care, and the joy of children. We each grew up with incredible mothers who ran day homes, filling our childhoods with laughter, learning, and the understanding that every child deserves a safe, loving space to grow. Those experiences shaped who we are today—two people deeply passionate about nurturing and guiding children, whether through our work or through volunteering for children’s organizations.”

Desirée and Dallas have always dreamed of becoming parents. However, their path to parenthood has been fraught with challenges. From a young age, Desirée knew she had a rare chromosomal translocation between chromosomes 7 and 14, a condition that can complicate fertility. Despite this knowledge, she never anticipated the extent of the difficulties they would face. The limited research available suggests that such translocations primarily affect fertility, but much remains unknown.

Their journey has been marked by profound loss. Desirée has endured ten miscarriages—five of them with Dallas. The last three losses were particularly devastating, as they occurred later in the first trimester, just when hope was beginning to blossom. Each loss has been a heavy blow, but their commitment to becoming parents has remained steadfast.

In the face of these challenges, Desirée and Dallas have made significant life choices to build a stable and nurturing environment for their future child. Dallas is currently pursuing studies in HVAC, aiming to provide a solid foundation for their family. Simultaneously, Desirée runs a full-time day home and is studying Early Childhood Education, dedicating herself to understanding and fostering child development.

After much heartache and reflection, they have made the gut-wrenching decision to stop trying naturally and pursue IVF with genetic testing, which gives them the best chance of having a healthy baby. Desirée has reached a point where she fears her body cannot handle any more losses or the medical procedures that come with them. Her doctor has expressed deep concerns for her health, and they cannot risk further complications for what seems to be their only remaining option—IVF.

Desirée has expressed to me the immense stress and anxiety she feels over the financial burden of IVF. She fears they may not be able to begin the process any time soon because, like so many others, the cost is overwhelming. To come up with this kind of money in today’s world, especially on their own, feels impossible.

IVF is an incredibly emotional and financial burden, one that they cannot face alone.

Desirée and Dallas have spent their lives caring for and nurturing children. Now, they long to share that love with a child of their own. If you feel moved to support them—whether through a donation, a prayer, or by sharing their story—it would mean the world to them.

I believe in their resilience, their love, and their unwavering commitment to becoming parents. With our support, I hope they will soon hold their long-awaited rainbow baby.

With love and gratitude,
Sophie
