The women from a marginalized community in Cochabamba, Bolivia need your help! To empower them to continue their work bringing life to a desert barrio, so they can cultivate nutrious food for their families in a poor, water-scarce area called Santa Rosa de Lima.
The women from this barrio face many challenges, such as having no main water supply, no supermarkets or fresh food near by, aswell as insecurity and safety issues. The barrio is located near the city trash dump, and the residients are migrants from rural areas, who have moved to the city in search of work and are living in a precarious situation. Yet a powerful movement is taking root by an incredible group of local women who are already tackling this harsh reality, by transforming their homes: they are cultivating edible back yard gardens, pioneering water harvesting techniques and meticulously saving vital seeds. The women have collectively pulled resources to build a seed house made from local earth materials designed to help with the longevity of seed storage, their plan is to be able to save, sell and exchange seeds, but to complete this they need extra funding.
Help us build their future: The money we raise will fund the crucial next phase of the project:
A Water Reservoir: To collect and store the precious rainwater from the roof of the seed house.
A Security Wall: To protect their shared Seed House and resources.
Land Development: To prepare a new patch of land for larger-scale seed saving and food production.
Our team is partnering with the women's asociasion 'Nueva Semilla" and Agroecología y Fe to scale this essential work. The women are co-investing in their future with a financial contribution of their own. Your support will complete the final funds needed to secure their access to water, seeds, and safety—creating a green and secure future for their whole community.
