Dental Students serving in the Dominican Republic!

Akeadra Bell and Briana Hudson, third-year dental students, have a thirst for knowledge and a passion to serve. Both students have proven to be extremely active members of their community: Briana (Bri) serves as the President of their school’s Dental Student Government, while Akeadra (Ke) serves as the President of their local chapter of the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) as well as the 2018-2019 National President-Elect of SNDA. Both Bri and Ke were selected as 2018-2019 J. Bradley Wilson North Carolina Schwietzer Fellows, for which they composed an original project designed to promote proper oral hygiene habits and provide screenings for patients living with HIV in Eastern North Carolina.
 
Bri and Ke are thrilled to have been selected to travel abroad with the Dominican Dental Mission Project this July, 2019! Students will provide needed elective and emergency dental care to an estimated 1,000 children and family members living in rural and impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic. For 6 consecutive days, from 6AM-10PM, students will provide care in a different city each day. They will work alongside a team of extremely skilled veteran General Dentists, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Periodontists. This mission trip provides Bri and Ke an exclusive opportunity to serve the underserved, broaden their skill set and develop lasting relationships with colleagues from across the United States, as they begin their final year of training in Dental school.
