(The new photo shows Jerry at his home receiving the first $1000 of this effort. He was emotional, especially when I explained to him who was actually sending him money. He lives a very simple life and he didn't know what to say when we presented this to him. He drove a school bus during the time when that didn't pay well at all. Thank you to those who have donated or are considering it. Every penny makes a difference.)
Jerry Radcliffe drove bus at DCSD for 47 years. He grew up in Denison, and was educated in the school system. After graduating with the class of 1962, Jerry worked in construction, drove trucks and operated heavy equipment.
He went to work at DCSD in 1980 as a bus driver and drove tens of thousands of miles over those years safely delivering students from home to school and back again.
He was born on June 2, 1944 in Des Moines. He is married to his wife Eva and they have shared 51 years together. He is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and is a 32nd degree Mason.
Two months after his retirement, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He endured 44 radiation treatments and because of his diabetes, takes insulin daily.
He was infected with Covid-19 in February of this year and then suffered a stroke. He is recovering at Reed House in Denison.
That expense is not covered by Medicaid and he does not have private insurance to pay the cost. He and Eva need your help to defray these expenses and he hopes to raise $20,000 with this crowdfunding.
Please contribute what you can. He and Eva will be forever grateful for your help. God bless you!
*100% of the proceeds driven by this fundraiser will go to Jerry. There are no administrative fees collected. Stock photo used.
