Denise Needs Our Help After Devastating Fire

Hi. My name is Halid Abera, I hope YOU will help My Mom Denise Burns.

My Mom is a caring person. She has help countless individuals and families in crises living in St. Louis City and County. She has spent her life supporting others, including children living in the foster care system.

She lost her home due to a devastating fire on November 12, 2024. The fire tore through her home at 3113 Arsenal, St. Louis, MO. The house was left gutted - a place full of memories, years of hard work and future plans reduced to rubble. The emotional weight of this loss has been overwhelming. She can’t bring herself to drive by the house (unimaginable loss of her home).

The house was more than a structure. It was a foundation of legacy, turned to ashes.

My Mom has spent a great deal of her life working in occupations that require more than just book smarts. The work required care, tough love, acknowledgement of the small success in life and encouragement in the difficulties times in life. She helped families secure long term housing, home ownership opportunities, support services, educational advancements, childcare, start businesses etc. She offered not just assistance but some of the best life advice people had ever received. Her wisdom, discipline and compassion made an everlasting impact on the life of so many.

Not always well liked for her straight-forward response but fair/respected.

To this day, people stop her in public to say “you helped me when I didn’t know how to help myself – me and my family are doing fine” - Thank You! “I’m saving my money” – “I brought a car”– “I own property now” – “I started a business” – “I’m working on my PHD and my children are in college” – many more!

She stepped away from working in the mainstream to care for a family member and to serve mentally and physically challenged adults. Advocating for proper care for those with no voice – still helping!

A contribution of $20,000 will cover the cost of: demolition, back taxes, city liens and the resettlement of the land. These funds will prevent my Mom from losing her home.
