deMelo Kids Fund

Donation protected
On March 8th the deMelo kids lost their mother (my sister) to liver disease. Jacqui had a long struggle prior to hospitalization at Newton Wellesley Hospital. Her condition deteriorated resulting in a transfer to Mass General to work with the best specialists available. Unfortunately despite aggressive treatment and drastic efforts, her body could no longer keep up the fight.

During the time leading up to hospitalization, as her health had been declining, so had the state and functioning of her household.

Your contributions will help the kids lives get back to as normal as can be expected. We will use the funds to get the house back in order (clean pillows and blankets and enough for everyone to have their own), and pay for things such as clothing, winter jackets and boots, school supplies, school field trips, and food. And less necessary (but still so important!) things such as birthday parties for the kids (Joseph's is March 22), possibly a theater class for Emma as I saw her shine more than ever during her first Design Inspiration competition, or taking Lila and Griffin to the zoo that they live so close to but rarely get to enjoy.

Kayla has moved out of college and will be helping run the house and raise the kids. I imagine some of the money we raise will be spent to maintain Kayla's car so she is available to drive the kids to friends' houses, birthday parties, alateen meetings, etc.

I'm their aunt. I have always been close with my nieces and nephews but will need to step in even more now. I will be helping with finances, including managing this fund. I'll deposit this money to a separate bank account in my name but designated only to money for the kids, including the money raised here. I'll make withdrawls as the needs arise or transferring money to Kayla when she is going to be spending it on something along the nature of what is described above. I'm in Framingham so while I'm close to them in JP, it can be a bit of a drive during certain times and transferring the money for Kayla to withdraw might often make the most sense logistically. I will make sure to know specifically what the money will be used for as opposed to just transferring money blindly.

Jenny Boston has graciously offered to match your donations, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000. This generousity and tremendous amount of kindness towards our family is truly humbling.

We we are so very grateful for your all your support - whether it's the love you've shown, ideas and resources you've offered, or a financial donation, we feel so truly blessed.
