The De La Garza’s Journey To Family! Their story:
All good things come to those who wait...
Well, we waited, and now it's time to prepare for a new chapter. A chapter that involves a beautiful 18 month old girl. A chapter that will last for the rest of our lives.
We have been officially matched with a little girl in China and we're preparing to bring her home! She is just too sweet and we are just too smitten! We feel incredibly blessed to become her Forever Family!
She was born with a cleft lip and palate, and although she has had two successful surgeries, we cannot wait to get her home and provide her with the medical care she needs. We anticipate more surgeries, speech therapy and dental work. It's important she receives this care because we also anticipate lots of laughing and lots of smiling!
As many of you know, we began this journey in 2006 after learning about the growing number of little girls in Chinese orphanages. Opportunities for these beautiful children are almost non-existent and even more scarce for the children who have medical needs like our daughter. Sometimes, one path leads you to another and during the long wait to adopt from China, we learned of the orphans in Ethiopia and their international adoption program.
On May 15, 2011, we adopted Mimi, our beautiful, sweet girl from Ethiopia and we became a Forever Family! She is the most amazing, kind and loving little girl and we could not feel more proud and humbled to be her Mama and Papa! Mimi has filled our lives and our home with bundles of laughter, joy and happiness.
After 5 wonderful years, we will be welcoming a new daughter for Joe and I, and a new sister for Mimi.

And now, all we can do is wait for the final approval documents from China, before travelling in the next 6-8 weeks!
The orphanage donation ($6K) will not affect our daughter directly, but will help the children who are left behind, awaiting families of their own to adopt them. The money will help pay for food, clothes and medical needs for the children in the orphanage.
Medical Care: We expect to have surgeries, speech therapy and dental work and possibly dental surgeries over several years.
Travel: We expect it will cost between $9K-$13K for our family to travel to China for 2-4 weeks. Our total adoption costs will be between $26-$34k. This may seem crazy, but to us, our little girl is worth every penny!
