Dejaun's International Chess Journey 2024
Donation protected
Dejaun started playing chess online in 2020 at the age of 6, during the Covid-19 pandemic. His coach, FM Warren Elliott, realized that he had a natural knack for the game and encouraged his parents to have him continue playing. His first tournament was Jamaica's Online National Age Group Chess Championship in 2021 where he placed 4th in the Under 8 Absolute section. Since then he has continued to excel locally at this sport that he truly loves with great results, including:
- tied 2nd (based on matches won): U10 ABS National Age Group Chess Championship 2024
- tied 2nd (based on matches won): U10 ABS National Age Group Chess Championship 2023
- 2nd: Mona Prep Chess Tournament 2023
- 3rd: U8 ABS Online National Age Group Chess Championship 2022
At this point, international exposure is needed to allow him to reach his full potential. Representing his country, Jamaica, is a dream but due to limited sponsorship for the sport, we are seeking your help to make this possible. Dejaun would like to represent Jamaica at the:
- Pan-American Youth Chess Championships in Orlando, Florida for the period of July 14-20, 2024, and
- Central America & Caribe Youth Festival in El Salvador, for the period August 1-8, 2024.
All financial donations will be used to assist with air fare, accommodation and registration for the events. Your assistance will help make this dream a reality and move Dejaun closer to realizing his dream of being a Chess Grand Master and representing his beautiful island of Jamaica.
