Defense of the Village of Oregon

Donation protected

The historic crossroads Village of Oregon was first settled in 1717 and is one of the crown jewels
of Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The historic core of the village and
surrounding farmland, which is some of the most productive in the nation, is under threat from
encroachment of a massive suburban development that would include 550 residential units,
retail and a 120-room hotel.

The site of this proposed new suburb is in the middle of Manheim Township's last remaining
Agricultural District and is surrounded by numerous Old Order Amish and Mennonite farms.
These farms are the heart and soul of Lancaster County and need to be preserved and protected
from the onslaught of suburban sprawl.

A citizens group, Save Rural Oregon, has been formed to raise money to hire an attorney to
represent a number of farm families around the village of Oregon to assist in the opposition of
this development and make the case to the Manheim Township Board of Commissioners why this
massive development will be harmful to the farming community and why it should be rejected.

All monies raised by this campaign will be used to pay for legal fees to help these farming families,
and they will be forever grateful for the generous support of the people of Lancaster County and
beyond, which will enable them to continue a way of life and the stewardship of the land, as their
ancestors have done for almost 300 years.
