About Me
Hi my name is Harrison, I am 16 years old, and I have a clear and unwavering goal: I am going to be a Marine Biologist. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the ocean. While many children have hobbies, for me, marine life has always been a calling. Despite not living near the coast, I have spent years studying the blue corners of our planet from afar, driven by a deep-seated curiosity about what lies beneath the surface. Now, I am ready to turn that lifelong fascination into tangible action.

The Journey So Far
I haven’t just been dreaming; I’ve been working hard to build the foundations of my future career.

Work Experience: I recently completed a work experience placement with the National Marine Aquarium (NMA), where I got a behind-the-scenes look at the vital link between research and public education.

Technical Skills: I am a qualified SSI Open Water Diver. Having completed my certification in the Maldives, I’ve seen the beauty of wild Manta rays and Hawksbill turtles—but I’ve also seen how fragile their world is.

Why Estoril, Portugal?
I have chosen to join an IVHQ Marine Conservation project in Estoril, Lisbon in July 2026. This location is a frontline for Atlantic marine preservation. The waters here are rich in biodiversity but face significant pressure from human activity and pollution.

By travelling to Portugal, I am stepping out of my comfort zone to work in a new environment. This project focuses on underwater clean-ups, ecological monitoring, and community outreach. It is the perfect place for me to apply my diving skills to active conservation work.

How I Will Make a Difference
This project allows me to serve the local community and the planet in two ways:

Direct Restoration: I will be in the water, removing harmful plastics and ghost nets that threaten local species. Following my interest in seagrass projects with the NMA, I am eager to support the restoration of natural habitats that act as the lungs of our ocean.

Changing Mindsets: Conservation only works if we change human behaviour. I will be working to educate others on the importance of reducing plastic consumption and finding "greener" alternatives for fuel and packaging. I want to help the community understand that protecting the ocean isn’t just about the animals—it’s about our collective future.

What This Means for My Future
This experience is a vital stepping stone toward the University of Plymouth, where I plan to study Marine Biology after my A-Levels. By volunteering in Estoril, I am gaining the international field experience that universities and organisations like the Ocean Conservation Trust look for.

Beyond the CV, this is deeply meaningful to me. The ocean is where I feel most connected and at peace. To have the chance to give back to the environment that inspires me every day is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity.

How You Can Support Me
To make this mission possible, I need to raise funds for the program fees, travel, and essential conservation equipment. Your support doesn't just fund a trip; it invests in a young person dedicated to protecting our oceans for the long term.

Thank you for supporting my journey to become a Marine Biologist!
