Please meet Deputy Powell:

My name is DeAngelo Powell and I am 29 years old. I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on September 4th 2024. I went to the Emergency Room from work after not feeling well. I had facial droop and high blood pressure. My treatment has included multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and multiple hospital stays at UCSF hospital in San Francisco. I have been in the hospital four separate times for treatment, I have had chemotherapy and radiation. My treatment team is at UCSF. My last stay at the hospital was from January 22nd, 2025 to March 1st, 2025. I had a bone marrow transplant and my sister was my donor. I then was able to go home but had a 100 day quarantine.

On June 1st, 2025, after my 100 day quarantine, I had the privilege of being honored at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with Team in Training. I was able to enjoy my first vacation with my family since I was diagnosed. I was able to support Team Mile 88 while they cycled 100 miles around lake Tahoe for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride.

Unfortunately, I returned to the hospital June 21st, 2025. I was informed the leukemia had spread and I have to endure a harsher form of chemotherapy and radiation. My wife will soon have to return to work due to her time running low in order to keep an income and medical going.

A little bit about myself is that I am married to my wife Alicia and I have a 3 year old son named Jordan. I am currently employed with the Contra Costa county office of the Sheriff and I’ve been there since 2021. I have built great relationships there over the years and I am grateful to have them as family. My family and I have definitely had many days where we felt overwhelmed but our faith in God has prevailed and we believe that we will come out of this difficult time soon. We love and appreciate anyone who supports and sends any well wishes to my recovery. We accept any help and prayers and are extremely grateful. Thank you!
