Strategic use of data creates visibility of health care needs of our communities. While ‘IUIH Model of Care’ provides for evidence-based, consistent & systematic approach delivery of care, enabling the IUIH Network to improve Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples’ access to Medicare. Medicare income generated in 2015/16 increased by 21% compared to last year, these funds returned to our communities through extra primary health care services & expanded health infrastructure. A key priority remained the expansion of dental services. Established 4 more Dental Chairs, total in the Region now 20 + the Mobile Dental Service. Allied health & specialist services expansion continued, ensuring these services remain fully integrated with primary health care services delivered locally. Frequency of allied health services increased. Eye clinic expansion (funding from Fred Hollows Foundation), saw a 147% increase in services, with 4,022 patient visits conducted in 2015/16 (compared to 2,718 in 2014/15). Specialist services expanded - growth in paediatrics, ophthalmology & Addiction Medicine. 4,896 consultations were delivered across 12 specialities. Collaborating with CheckUP Australia & Healthscope, IUIH delivered 50 cataract surgeries in 2015/16, plus 14 ENT surgeries performed on Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children from across SEQ. ‘Work it Out’ Chronic Disease Rehabilitation Programs increased, 3 new sites in 2015/16 & 475 new patients. IUIH opened its first ‘Work it Out’ Gym in Morayfield. Patient improvements continue. Preventable chronic disease remains major contributor to life expectancy gap of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples, our Deadly Choices Program expanded across SEQ & beyond.
