Deaconess Molly’s Journey to Jurisdiction
Donation protected
Greetings! My name is Molly King! I am a Deaconess serving for the Mountain Sky conference at our very own Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp. I have had the honor and privilege to attend United Women in Faith Western Jurisdiction Meeting and our very own Mountain Sky Annual Conference as a delegate. At our June 2024 session of annual conference I was approached to be the delegate to our church Western Jurisdiction Meeting in July. Our body voted and approved my nomination to be a delegate. Knowing that if God brought me to this, God would guide me through this one day and one step at a time. However with great privilege comes the hard discussion about money. I have been blessed with scholarships that have paid for registration but I wanted to share some of the other struggles as a lay leader answering the call to attend events. It is difficult to follow the path especially when you’re being encouraged into ministry as a young adult particularly because sometimes I have to choose between groceries and going to jurisdiction. The point I’m trying to make is that it’s hard to do self care when you are hungry and it’s hard to do ministry when you are hungry. I think that often gets forgotten, especially as a layperson in ministry. I don’t have the job that pays for me to go to jurisdiction meetings or conference. Something to think about when I ask for gifts of blessings, donations and prayer is that I’m also asking for the gift of self care. Self Care is not just immidiet needs from the meeting itself or in the moment but to give me general self care as well.
Here is my story :) Any extra beyond this amount will go towards my ministry at Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp
You asked… I answered…But now I need your help
For those who didn’t watch the AC live, I was nominated and accepted to be a delegate reserve at our Western Jurisdiction meeting in July. We spent the last few days talking about how we want to see the young people more involved and now we have an opportunity for that to happen but I need your help. I have already attended two weeks of church events and with Jurisdiction I’m looking at missing three weeks total of missed work to participate and attend the church meetings. As a working young adult that means in two months time I will have not received almost a month’s worth of wages. Even with the blessing of low housing costs, I still have other financial responsibilities. Beyond basic necessities I was hit with a curveball where a drunk driver totaled my car and it was my intention to fund my new car with my summer wages so I can successfully continue school in the fall. You asked me to serve but now I’m asking you for support. I haven’t made it this far on the journey alone and I know that I’m far from alone now. As I ask for support for expenses, I ask that you keep in mind the costs beyond the physical event. Working for a nonprofit means that my usual PTO does not exist which means for every day I don’t work means no money in the bank to fund my basic needs. So I’m asking you church, I answered your call but I now I need your support.
