Hi, my name is Violet, and I’m reaching out for support during one of the most difficult times of my life. I’m a proud mom to my son, Anthony. He is my world, and I’ve always been his primary caregiver.

I am seeking sole custody—not to take Anthony away from his father, but to protect him. Anthony has a significant language delay and cannot express his needs or wants clearly. His speech therapist has stressed how important stability and consistency are for his progress, and I know that placing him in an unstable environment would set him back.

Anthony’s father struggles with alcoholism and unstable employment, and he is currently living in an apartment with his mistress and her three older children. That environment is not toddler-friendly, and I’m worried for Anthony’s safety and well-being if he were placed there without me. I believe monitored visits are what’s best for Anthony right now so that he can still have a relationship with his dad while staying safe.

The challenge is that custody battles are very expensive, and his family has already promised to fund a lawyer for him. I work hard as a hospital tech, but my income just isn’t enough to cover the legal fees I need to protect my son.
