Hi all, I’m Dax (they/them). I’m a trans, nonbinary musician, hiker, reader, and coffee-lover. This GoFundMe is an effort to save the funds necessary for my top surgery. My loving partner, Cal, graciously set this up after convincing me that starting a GoFundMe would help support and enable me to reach my goal.

I initially came out to myself about four years ago. Since then it’s been quite the journey of learning what it means to be my authentic self in our current world. Part of that self-discovery included a lot of anxiety, curiosity, sadness, and joy. My trans-ness has often taken me by surprise. The first time a person asked if I wanted them to use they/them pronouns for me, I started crying from the realization that I finally felt seen. Some time after, I was trying on a binder when I saw myself in the mirror and was struck by the thought of how this reflection was me; this was how I was supposed to be. Again, gender euphoria announced itself out of seemingly nothing and I found myself crying.

I have worked hard to accept that I can call myself trans and deserve to live my life fully. Now I know that part of that means changing my body to be aligned with who I know myself to be. I have been lucky to have the support of so many people, from queer family, to my Iowa family, to my colleagues and coworkers, to my bandmates and friends. Now, I am reaching out to the very communities who have helped care for me and made it possible for me step into who I am.
