Dawna Needs A Kidney

I hope this reaches you in good health. As many of you know, my mom has Polycystic Kidney Disease (a genetic disease passed down from parent to child) and you know her story. In 2007 one of my mom's best friends, Susan, gave her a gift beyond words, a gift that I still have a hard time expressing and fully comprehending. She donated a healthy kidney that allowed my mom to live fully and vibrantly for 13 years. I would like to thank anyone who got tested in 2007 or has been tested already since. 3 years ago my mom had a rejection that put her in the hospital, in such bad shape she couldn't speak or leave her bed. Since leaving the hospital 2 years ago, she has been doing regular 3 hour dialysis treatments 3 times a week. Although her labs and numbers look good (mainly because she is an outstanding patient) she is in desperate need of a transplant and it has been an incredibly rough couple of years for our whole family.

 

At a recent appointment with her Nephrologist, he clarified that she was a very tough match. Likely, it would take 6+ years of waiting on the list for a cadaver kidney, if she were to receive one at all.

 

For the last 3 years Dawna has waited on the list. Meanwhile attempting to stay healthy enough for major surgery during COVID-19, and spending a grueling 450 hours (18 full days) at dialysis.

 

Thats where you all come in! We desperately need to get the word out. These donations will help us to offset the cost of purchasing billboards, lawn signs, and car decals to spread the word about Dawna’s story.
