Hello, my name is David, and I like peanut butter :)
Lately, I have run into some financial difficulties, due to extreme peanut butter consumption. Please help me buy more peanut butter.
Just kidding, I'm a German studying a Bachelor of Science at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, in New Zealand.
As part of my second year towards this degree, we have been asked to undertake a project, of which we have to fund ourselves.
For this project, I will be traveling to Timor Leste (otherwise known as East Timor, located between Papua New Guinea and Bali) to study the attitude of local fisherfolk towards conservation in and around the Nino Konis Santana National Park, on the east side of the island.
I chose to undertake this study in Timor Leste as it is a place close to my heart, as they are l in the early stages of development, but still have a long way to go. During my stay on the island last month I got engaged with an international organization operating in the country. I was able to already start my project with the help from two local students working with the fishers in the community of Com. A high number of people depend on fishing as their livelihood in Timor. Pristine coral reefs and rare marine species such as turtles and dugongs are under threat! I feel I can make a positive impact for future generations.
The project I am involved in is aiming to put a sustainable Fisheries Management in place, enhance Food and Nutrition Security and to reduce Disaster Risk in Timor-Leste.
The money will go towards flights to and from the island, and will also help with basic living costs to allow me to go about my surveying for the 2.5 months I am intending to stay on the island.

Zur Zeit hab i koa Diridari net weil i so viele Wuerschtl gessn hab. Bitte helfts mir damit i beim Metzger nimmer bettln muss.
Spaß bei Seite. Ich bin Deutscher und vor ungefähr zwei Jahren nach Neuseeland ausgewandert. Zur Zeit studiere ich hier Meeresbiologie im zweiten Semester.
Fuer mein viertes Semester gestalten wir ein Projekt unserer Wahl. Alles was wir dafür benötigen müssen wir selbst bezahlen.
Für mein Projekt möchte ich nach Timor Leste fliegen (auch bekannt als Ost-Timor, eine Land zwischen Papua Neu Guinea und Bali) um herauszufinden was die dortigen Fischer die um den Nino Konis Santana National Park leben so von Nachhaltigkeit und Schutzgebieten halten.
Mir ist Timor Leste regelrecht ans Herz gewachsen. Ein Entwicklungsland das noch einen langen Weg vor sich hat. Den letzten Monat habe ich dort verbracht und konnte mit einer internationalen Organisation als freiwilliger Helfer arbeiten. Mit deren Hilfe konnte ich mein Projekt starten. Mir wurden 2 Timorese Studenten mit ähnlichem Interesse vorgestellt und die zwei haben mir beim Übersetzen ins Englische extrem geholfen. Ich arbeite mit Fischern im Dorf Com, am östlichen Ende der Insel. Viele Menschen dort sind vom Fischen abhängig und verdienen damit ihren Lebensunterhalt. Atemberaubende Korallenriffe, Meereskreaturen wie Schildkröten und Seekühe sind dort sehr gefährdet. Ich glaube Ich kann dort positives für die Zukunft bewirken!
Ziel des Projekts bei dem ich Mitwirke sind:
· Einen nachhaltigen Weg finden den Fischfang systematisch zu managen
· Absicherung von Nahrungsmittel Zufuhr
· Reduzierung von Katastrophen Risiken
Das Geld wird hauptsächlich in Flüge investiert um auf und wieder von der Insel weg zu kommen. Es wird mir ausserdem helfen Lebenshaltungskosten zu decken,
fuer die 2.5 Monate die ich auf der Insel verbringen moechte.
