Hi, my name is David Godeaux and I am a Life Scout of Troop 565. I have dyslexia, and I found that I read differently than most people. For my Eagle Project, I want to construct a book walk next to the City of Hutto's Cottonwood Creek Trail through Fritz Park to encourage reading and outdoor activities and also provide a medium that may be beneficial to some people with dyslexia.
The project will be the construction of 18 pedestals placed 30 feet apart along the walkway. This will allow users to experience the park path and read a story as they walk.
My goal is not only to provide the pedestals but also to raise enough funds to be able to provide the library at least 6 books that they can switch out bimonthly.
The book walk should promote the city library and park foot traffic as an additional feature to the park path. It will allow the library the ability to highlight some new books every month. Also, the path should encourage users to participate in city activities in the parks and will encourage outside time for children and adults alike.
Donations will be used to fund the materials and equipment for the project as well as food and drinks for the build crews to construct and install the pedestals.
Individuals or companies can sponsor an individual pedestal for $200. Sponsors will be recognized with a plaque attached to the finished pedestal.
