Help Us Protect Villa Grove!!! Support Our Lawsuit Against Saguache County Commissioners
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Supporters,
We need your help. Our small community of Villa Grove is under threat due to the approval of a 195-foot cell tower by the Saguache County Commissioners. The decision was made despite significant opposition from residents who did not ask for this, don't need this, and don't want this. The community is concerned about the tower's visual impact on our beautiful landscape, potential health and environmental effects, and the proximity to residents' homes.
In their original "Letter of Intent," Viaero Wireless and Industrial Tower West stated this project was needed due to "customer demands" (what customers ?) and it would provide cell phone coverage FROM Villa Grove north to the top of Poncha Pass, which is 14.2 miles. According to their site acquisition manager, the tower's coverage is 5 miles. If that were the actual intention, the tower would need to be about 7 miles north of Villa Grove to accomplish ANY of this "need." The residents of Villa Grove are not opposed to this tower if it will help anyone north of us without coverage... but they ARE opposed to the location. With only a handful of full-time residents, where's the return on investment for this company? So many things don't make sense. However, an article by CNN published in July of 2022 may have shed some light on possibilities. Read for yourself, specifically the "Chinese Tech in the American Heartland" where this company's business practice is discussed extensively.

Other than the San Luis Valley being known for one of the most beautiful drives in the state, most people don't even know Villa Grove exists. Now people get to see THIS as they drive through one of the largest alpine valley's in the world.
Members of our community have come together and filed a lawsuit challenging the validity and transparency of the decision-making process of the commissioners. We believe that our voices were not heard and that the approval process was flawed. (UPDATE: Although Viaero petitioned the court to intervene in the lawsuit the Judge has DENIED this action. )The tower has been built and can be seen for MILES ("it will blend in with the landscape," they said) and it is a constant reminder of the power of money over the voices of residents.
Your contribution will help us cover legal fees so we can continue our crucial fight. Every dollar counts and will bring us one step closer to ensuring that the natural beauty and tranquility of Villa Grove are preserved for future generations
Please join us in standing for our community and for you. Together we can make a difference.
Thank you for your support. Paula Maez, Marquita Oliver, MJ Graham, and the concerned residents of the Villa Grove Community
