Dave and Linda Werleys Longterm Care Support

Hi, My name is Matthew Werley, and I am the son of Reverand David and Linda Werley. I am attempting to raise some funds for my dear parents' continued care as they search for a facility that will best serve their complex needs. First, Let me give you a little background so you understand just how we got here. My parents were married in March of 1970. By the Spring of 1973, they had two children and my father had begun a 52 year career as a Lutheran pastor. He served the bulk of those years ministering to the eldery and infirmed in long-term care facilities in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. My mother had begun a short-lived career as a middle school English teacher. On one fateful day as they travelled to pick me up from daycare, a man robbed a convenience store, blew through a stop light going 80 miles an hour and hit my parents van. The man ran away on foot and was never found in relation to my parents accident. My mom was thrown through the front windshield and my father sustained life-long injuries to his legs. Linda ended up with a traumatic brain injury and was ultimately in a coma for 6 weeks. She has been disabled ever since and my father has been her primary care-giver and by her side each and every day.

My mother did not work long enough to receive longterm disability and so essentially we have been a one income family ever since. David has never asked for a penny, put two kids through college and lived a generous and beautiful life. My father retired a few years ago, although he has continued to serve as a supply pastor and minister others throughout retirement. As fate would have it, 48 years later he fell recently and has sustained his own traumatic brain injury. He is working hard through the recovery process and the various therapies, but may be limited in his ability to care for both himself and his wife Linda. My parents have long-term care insurance, but very little else to pay for the high costs associated with continued assisted-care living. We are in the process of identifying a place where they can live together, serve others, receive the care they both need and afford the costs associated with long-term care. As family, we certainly don't need the cream of the crop facilities. Just a place where they can be together and get the care they deserve. Please consider giving even a small amount to this necessary cause and a terrific couple. All monies will go towards their long-term care bills.
