My name is Brenda, and I am fundraising to help the first expedition of Peruvian women climb one of the highest mountains in the world, Gasherbrum II (8035 m), located in the Himalayas in the Cordillera of the Karakorum, Pakistan.
I have had the great fortune to guide numerous trips in Peru with local guide and mountaineer Lixayda Vasquez. She creates exceptional experiences while stewarding both land and culture. I hope we will support Liz as she embarks on an incredible journey to the top of Gasherbaum II.
Liz and the Hijas de la Montaña, translated into "Daughters of the Mountain," will create history in Peruvian and Latin American mountaineering. The all-women team of six will attempt the ascent without the support of sherpas or supplementary oxygen. Their vision is to open the doors to mountaineering for hundreds of women, breaking stereotypes and prejudices in this male-dominated sport. Their goals include promoting inclusivity, respect, and acknowledgment of women's strength and contributions to Peruvian society and the mountaineering community.
Their motto is "Together We Are Mountain."
Team Members include six women from different regions of Peru:
- Lixayda Vasquez from Cusco, director of Mountain Woman in Peru, with high experience in glacial mountains of more than 6,000m, medical emergencies, rescue and outstanding leadership in group management.
- Flor Cuenca Blas, has six (oxygen free) ascents to mountains over 8,000 meters. K2 (8611m) in Pakistan - 2022, Dhaulagiri (8167m) in Nepal - 2021, Gasherbrum I (8080m) Pakistan - 2021, Broad Peak (8051m) in Pakistan – 2019, Manaslu (8163m) in Nepal – 2017, Cho Oyu (8201m) in Tibet - 2016.
- Malu Espinoza from Huaraz
- Roberta Guzmán from Cusco
- Yudith Mamani from Tacna
- Verinia Llallacachi Espinel from Arequipa
High-altitude expeditions are expensive, including permits, travel, training, specialized equipment and clothing. Please help to make Gasherbrum a reality for Lixayada and her team.
