A discreet house near the Belgian coast where LGBT Muslims facing rejection, silence, or deep inner conflict between faith and identity can find temporary shelter, inclusive prayer, and dignity.
The purpose is not only temporary shelter, but also helping people regain stability, orientation and dignity when they have been wounded by family rejection, social isolation, or conflict between faith and sexual identity.
A modest inclusive prayer space would also allow people — especially those who often feel unwelcome, judged, or diminished in ordinary mosque environments — to pray, reflect, and breathe with dignity.
The deeper spirit of the place also remains open under a respectful interfaith umbrella, where human dignity and sincere dialogue are never separated from spiritual life.
This support may also extend to people arriving from other countries where living openly as LGBT remains socially or religiously unsafe, offering first orientation, calm, and human dignity.
Part of the house is intended to function later through modest hospitality activity, so that the project can gradually support itself through its own rooms and daily hosting.
Dar Al Rahma is conceived as a Belgian non-profit initiative combining inclusive prayer space, temporary shelter, and sustainable hospitality.
For the first realization, crowdfunding and discreet support are necessary as a starting impulse.
The immediate first amount is approximately 19,000 euros, covering first rent, rental guarantee, and basic starting costs.
My name is Bram Deryck, from Belgium. My background includes years of liberal theological reflection, first within a Christian context and later within Islam after my conversion. Together with my mother, I would carry the daily practical and human functioning of the place.
Practical help from people with useful hands for small preparation and installation work would also be deeply appreciated once the first step becomes possible.
Further explanation can also be provided in Dutch, French, English and German for those who wish to understand the project more fully or ask practical questions — if needed, contact remains possible
