Daniel’s mum needs our help

Hi, my name is Katie and my sister Kelly has just lost her 21-year-old son on Monday 23rd March to a sudden cardiac arrest.

Daniel had been suffering with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from being a young boy and has been fine up until the 3rd of March when his Doctors decided to change his medication.
From the start, this medication never agreed with Daniel and he had been suffering from a variety of ‘side effects as we were told’ and after numerous phone calls to the hospital, an A&E visit and an episode that caused him to feel very unwell, nearly passing out. The hospital decided to make him a follow up appointment which was actually the Monday he died!
Daniel‘s heart stopped suddenly on the bus ride home from watching a Wigan Warriors rugby game with his mum and two brothers.

The ambulance service arrived within minutes, but Daniel’s heart did not respond to any treatment and didn’t start to beat again till 30/40 minutes later. After finally getting a faint pulse they rushed him to Wigan infirmary and was put in an induced coma. He was still unconscious and could not breathe alone. The doctors were concerned with the lack of oxygen to his brain and after doing CT scan the results were showing normal so we still had a hope!
However, we were told things could change dramatically and to prepare for the worst.
On the Saturday morning, Daniel suffered a second cardiac arrest whilst in ICU when they rang my sister and said to gather the family together to say our goodbyes.

Daniel was still fighting, our little fighter! We still had hope! But by now, he was in a very critical condition and was immediately transferred to Liverpool Heart hospital where he would be monitored more closely.
On the Monday morning a further CT scan was done and my sister received a phone call for her to go down to the hospital to discuss Daniel’s results.
She was told there was nothing g else they could do and that Daniel’s brain was showing no brain activity and was now completely brain-dead.
Devastated we all rush to the hospital as the doctors had said that he is so severe they would be turning off his life support machine by the end of the day.

We are still processing what has happened and we do feel like Daniel was neglected regarding the change in his tablets, however nothing has been confirmed and as you can imagine this tragedy is so devastating, as a family we are struggling to process what has happened.

During all of this Kellys car had broken 2weeks prior and had to be scrapped, leaving her without transport to get to any appointments, work etc so she had to take the bus everywhere.
She asked me if I would take Daniel for his appointment on the Monday as she had no transportation, that day is the day Daniel sadly passed away.

I can’t bring my nephew back for my sister but I can try to help her as much as possible by asking for your help to raise enough money to buy her another car.

I am looking at trying to purchase a car of around £2000 if possible, something that is secure and reliable giving her the ability to transport to sort things for Daniel, work, school and other places needed to make her difficult circumstances alittle easier.

We have currently hired Kelly a vehicle temporarily but is due to run out this weekend.

Any help at all, even just your prayers would be greatly appreciated at this difficult time.

Thank you so much for your time.

Best wishes,
Katie
