Daniel's Eagle Project-Wheelchair Picnic Tables
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Daniel Kaminski, and I am a 17-year-old life scout in Troop 182, Holden. I am a current senior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, and am taking classes at WPI. I have been a scout since the first grade, and many of my fondest memories are from scouting trips, first as a Cub, and then as a Boy Scout.
I am currently beginning work on my Eagle Scout Project. Both my grandparents are residents of the Colony Retirement Home in Holden, and I want to benefit all residents of the home in some way. After inquiring as to what the residents might find helpful, I learned that the community lacks an outdoor gathering area, as well as an outdoor space for residents who require wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Thus, I hope to raise $2200 to purchase the materials required to construct four wheelchair-accessible picnic tables. These benches will be placed behind the main office building and serve as both an outdoor gathering area and an area accessible to wheelchair users. The majority of the cost comes from the lumber, but the project also budgets for materials that would ensure the benches will last long-term, including wood stain and adjustable umbrellas to be used during poor weather or summer months. As many retirement home residents have difficulty dealing with the heat, providing an area with shade outdoors would allow for greater physical activity. Any funds raised beyond the goal will be donated to the Colony Retirement Home for any further projects its residents may want. Thank you very much for your time and support.
Yours in Scouting,
