Dancing with the Whittier Stars

ABOUT THE CAUSE
This year, the Whittier Community Foundation invited me to give back through dance at their annual Dancing with the Whittier Stars fundraiser, and I said, "Yes!" I am dancing to raise $1,000 for a beloved organization, CAPC (CAPitalizing on Capabilities). CAPC’s mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to live and work on their own. Brett and I are so honored to be part of the CAPC family. Three years ago we started a series of videos that would tell the stories of the individuals they serve. Below is the first video we made about recent Cal State Fullerton graduate Jason.

The people of CAPC carry out their work with such heart and dedication.  Their efforts make the community better, and we hope the funds we raise enable them to extend their reach.

ABOUT DANCING WITH THE WHITTIER STARS
Every May the Whittier Community Foundation hosts an epic dance performance to raise money for local projects and non-profits.  Professional dancers, Rudy and Maria Hernandez, partner up with twelve local dignitaries, business owners, and community members to perform twelve ballroom dances.  We’ve been quick-stepping, rock-stepping, and step-ball-changing for months, getting ready to put on a great show for a great cause.   Performances will be on Wednesday May 8th, 2019 at the Whittier Community Center Theatre at 4pm and 7pm with dinner at 6pm. I would love to have you there cheering for me! Although I love to dance, I've never done any fancy partner "tricks."  But Rudy, Maria, and I have been working hard to get me in the air.  (Getting up has been doable so far.  Landing with grace and in rhythm and ready for the next move is the harder part. I'll post some progress pics and vids in the "Updates" section. ).  If you are in the area and able to make it, you can buy tickets from me (email or text me ) or you can buy tickets from the Whittier Community Foundation website at www.whittiercf.org/dancing.   I hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE WHITTIER COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Whittier Community Foundation supports projects that create a stronger, happier, healthier, more united community.  With the funds they’ve raised, they've installed fitness stations along the local Greenway Trail (because you shouldn't have to own a gym membership to get fit), and they partnered with KaBOOM to revitalize the under-utilized Kennedy Park. (See the video we made documenting the transformation here!) One of their current projects is to install a fire fighter tribute sculpture in front of Fire Station 28 on Greenleaf Ave. in Whittier.  The piece, titled “Stronger Together” reflects the values of teamwork, cooperation, and camaraderie.

IN CLOSING
We all have gifts on this earth, and I was raised to believe we should use our gifts to help those in need.  CAPC does that.  The Whittier Community Foundation does that. And my mom always said I was one of the most beautiful dancers of all, so gosh golly I’m going to put those dance lessons to good use.

My name is Caroline, and I’m Dancing with the Whittier Stars!  Will you join me?!
