Ever since I can remember, I have been volunteering in my community, whether it was community outreach through Girl Scouts, serving as the Vice President of the Special Olympics Club in high school, participating in the annual Santa Barbara Heart Walk or volunteering as a camp counselor. All of these experiences have played a huge role in my personal and academic growth.
This last summer I broke out of my comfort zone and traveled through Europe with my best friend. I was able to see first hand how very different life is all around the world and when I returned to California I knew I wanted to do more for other communities, which is why this trip means so much to me.
I currently have 10 weeks to raise $1,500.00 to make this volunteer trip possible. Every week leading up to the trip, several my fellow UCSD students and I come together to discuss ways to make this trip as meaningful as possible. Besides learning spanish, we are educating ourselves on Costa Rican culture and traditions, formulating appropriate lesson plans, and finding out what unique qualities and skills we can bring to children nearly 3,500 miles away.
In closing, thank you so much for taking the time to read this and supporting my cause, as I am so excited about this opportunity. For all persons who donate, I promise to provide updates on the orphanage experience, the volunteer work we perform, and the relationships forged while in Costa Rica.
