Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support for my father, Jose Lopez. On October 29th, while working hard doing landscaping in Skokie, IL, my dad was detained by ICE around 11:30 a.m.
After being taken, my dad made the heartbreaking decision not to fight his case and signed a self-deportation order so he could be released sooner. He has now been sent back to a country he hasn’t seen in over 40 years — a place that no longer feels like home. Both of his parents have passed away, and he has no close family there to help him through this painful transition.
My dad is starting from absolutely nothing. He’ll need to find a place to live, buy food, and get basic necessities like clothes, hygiene items, and furniture — things we often take for granted, but that he no longer has. He’s a humble, hardworking man who has spent decades building a life here, contributing to his community, and doing his best to support our family. Seeing him have to start over at this stage in life is truly heartbreaking.
I’m creating this fundraiser to help him rebuild from the ground up — to give him a chance at stability and dignity as he begins again. Every dollar raised will go toward his housing, food, and basic living needs until he can find work and regain his footing.
If you’re able to donate, please know that no amount is too small. And if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this fundraiser means just as much. Your kindness, prayers, and support will help my dad know he’s not alone in this.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and for showing love and compassion during such a difficult time.
With gratitude,
Lopez Kids
