Cyclone Warehouse was one of the longest-running underground artist spaces in San Francisco. Over the years, it hosted underground rock shows, Bicycle Rodeos, 1990's Burning Man fundraisers, flaming robot battles, performance art, circus acts, fundraisers including for the 2011 tsunami in Japan, and off-Broadway theater from artists in Bayview-Hunters Point.
But in October 2018, after 27 years of continuous and safe operation, Cyclone Warehouse was forced to shut down by its San Francisco landlords. The closure of this artistic space and many other similar spaces came as an indirect result of the 2016 Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, as many landlords decided they no longer wanted the liability of hosting art spaces.
Emptying out this 5,000 square foot, three-story space fell to the final leaseholder, San Francisco artist Bob Stafford. A year later, Bob is still struggling to dig himself out from under the massive bills this incurred. The costs included vehicle rentals, unpaid time away from his work, and most of all... dozens of expensive dump and recycling runs to dispose of tons of materials left behind by other artists over the decades of Cyclone's existence.
If you loved Cyclone... if you love art... if you love artists... please help Bob get out from under the massive debt from being forced to shut down one of the longest-running underground art spaces in San Francisco.
