Cycling across the UK for the people of Myanmar
Hello, my name is Josh. I'm planning to cycle from Land's End to John o' Groats (1000 miles, 13 days starting from 22/09/2023), so that I can raise support for the people of Myanmar who have been impacted by the ongoing civil unrest. The Funds from this charity event will go towards humanitarian aid and health care for those who have been internally displaced due to the civil war.
I started cycling and training for this journey well over a year ago, and it has become an inspiring drive within my life. During this period, I had the chance to get to know some Burmese people by attending Burmese charity events in London, where I learned about the ongoing coup and people affected by this tragedy. I also managed to learn about Burmese history and I grew an affinity for the Burmese people and their culture. This tragedy all started on February 1st 2021, where the country and people of Myanmar became victims of a military coup. There is currently an ongoing civil war between resistance forces and the military junta which has been escalating day by day. According to statistics, 4054 people has been killed, 24730 arrested, 19437 detained and 10s of millions of people were displaced from their home due to the impact of the war. A lot of the victims are still currently in poor living conditions needing as much aid as possible for food, shelter and health care etc. Through cycling across the United Kingdom, I hope to bring attention and support for this matter and any of your support will be appreciated by the people of Myanmar and myself.
Thank you
Josh
