Cycle in Aid of Donegal Centre for Independent Living

Join us in a charity cycle from Dungloe to Glenties in Aid of Donegal Centre for Independent Living on 21st September 2024.

Starting at Kavanagh's Supervalu, Dungloe at 10 am, cycling 27km along the Gweebarra cycle path and finishing at The Highlands Hotel in Glenties.

Teas, coffees and traybakes will be available at The Coffee House at The Highlands Hotel between 8am and 2pm with all proceeds going to DCIL.

About DCIL

DCIL’s mission is to support and empower people with disabilities in Donegal to achieve independent living and to actively participate in society by having choice and control over their own lives. DCIL is a non for profit organisation that was established in 1999 and is the leading provider of Personal Assistant services to disabled people across Donegal. DCIL is registered with the Charities Regulator, charity number 16580

The organisation is enshrined by the philosophy of independent living. “Independent Living” means that people with a disability achieve the same life opportunities and choices as everyone else. That includes growing up with their families, attending the local school, using the same bus, gaining employment in line with their education and abilities, having equal access to the same services and establishments of social life, culture, and leisure.

In addition to DCIL’s Personal Assistant service, it also provides the following services and supports:

  • DCIL operates a Hardship Fund to support Leaders (disabled service user) during difficult times.
  • DCIL operates an Opportunity Fund which is designed to provide financial and practical support Leaders to take an opportunity to fully participate in society.
  • DCIL operates a Scholarship Fund designed to support students with disabilities in third level education.
  • DCIL provides Disability Awareness Training.
  • DCIL provides Independent living training.
  • DCIL provides Accessible transport.
  • DCIL provides Peer Support & Mentoring.
  • DCIL provides accessibility audits to help create a more accessible society.

The funds raised from the Highland’s Cycle will support DCIL to continue with these important supports and services which benefit many people within our community.
