Access to the right specialist cycle and support from Bikeworks’ experienced instructors made that first family ride possible. Regular sessions meant the family could keep coming back.

That is why Cycle 535 matters.

NRP has chosen Bikeworks as its charity partner for Cycle 535. The challenge also marks our 20th anniversary.

Over five days, six NRP riders will cycle 535 kilometres from Land’s End to Guildhall, aiming to raise £10,000 towards increasing our specialist cycle fleet for disabled children and young people.

Why the fleet matters

Disabled children and young people can cycle. What is too often missing is access: specialist cycles, knowledgeable instructors and regular sessions.

Across our All Ability work, the number of people taking part has more than doubled in three years, growing from around 2,300 to approximately 5,600.

With participation more than doubling, the shared fleet now needs to grow to match the scale of the All Ability work.

Different physical, sensory, learning and communication needs can shape which cycle works and how a rider takes part. That might mean greater stability, a different seating position, adapted steering or pedalling, or support from an instructor or family member.

A standard two-wheeled cycle will not work for everyone. One specialist cycle will not work for everyone either.

At our All Ability Clubs, children and young people can try different cycles, find one that works and return regularly to build skills and confidence. Sessions are free, take place in community settings and are led by experienced Inclusive Cycling Instructors.

Where the money will go

The money raised through Cycle 535 will go towards adding more specialist cycles for younger riders:

A van Raam Easy Rider Compact Small, offering a stable seated position and back support.

A van Raam Easy Rider Compact, making this type of cycling available to a wider range of riders.

An ICE Sprint X Pixel, adding a compact recumbent trike with a different riding position and handling experience.

Adding new cycles to the shared fleet means more disabled children and young people can find a cycle that works.

New cycles purchased through the campaign will join our shared fleet and be used across All Ability Clubs for years to come.

For 20 years, Bikeworks has used cycles as a tool for good: widening access to physical activity, wellbeing and connectivity through cycling.
