Hi, Im James and I am fundraising for the Cwm and llantwit welfare miners hall regeneration.
Bit of history about the hall.
Cwm & Llantwit Welfare Hall was officially opened on October 21st 1933. The building contained a public hall (capacity 450), billiards hall, reading room and library. A smaller hall was unveiled in 1949. Extensions to the main hall in 1956 raised its capacity to 516. Difficulties in maintaining the hall as a going concern were ended with the arrival of a cinema - the Welfare Hall was renamed the Gaiety Cinema. The cinema closed in June 1964 at which time the former name was revived. Other activities hosted were boxing matches and dancing sessions. The hall remains in use as a social club.
This building has been taken over by a charity and are in the process of attempting to fully regenerate the building to its former glory for all the community to use.
A brilliant group of locals are trying to repair the building with help of friends and further public through charity grants and fundraising also.
Currently they have been successful in getting the one room at the front of the building repaired and back in working order (fantastic deco also) with the public being able to come together to enjoy their time socialising and having a drink.
The main entrance has had a new lease of life given to it also.
The rest of the building is currently underway of being repaired and we are asking for any help of supplying free materials or if you want to donate money to help pay towards materials that we may not be able to source for free this too would be extremely helpful to enable the work to be completed and bring this back to life again.
Also if there are any tradesmen who are willing to come in and help when you have free time along with the many fantastic people who are already doing the work or coming in to help with the future work that's in line we would be grateful of this.
Just get in contact with Lisa via [email redacted]
