After 28 years… I’m finally about to “ ”. ✂️️ And yes — it’s a big deal.

I’ve had my dreadlocks for longer than my son has been alive.

Outside of work, most people don’t even know my full name; I’m

“Benji the short man with the dreadlocks.”

They’ve been part of my identity for nearly three decades. I’ve talked about cutting them off for years… but like most things in life, you don’t let go until the moment actually feels right. ⏳ And somehow, this is that moment. New season. New chapter. Slightly lighter head.

I’m doing this as a fundraiser to support my son, Dantae, on his journey to the World Scout Jamboree in Poland, where he’s been selected to represent South London and England️⚜️ (Yes! Very proud dad moment right here).

Now here’s the real challenge…

The total amount Dantae has to raise is a whopping £3,600

That’s no small task — especially for a young Scout.

This particular challenge — me saying goodbye to 28 years of hair — is aiming to raise £1000 ✂️

It’s just one step in a much bigger journey… but every step counts.

This hasn’t been an easy decision for either of us.

For me, it means saying goodbye to something that’s been part of who I am for 28 years.

For Dantae — who has never seen me without dreadlocks — it’s accepting that his dad is about to look… very different.

But we’ve both agreed on one thing:

this isn’t just about hair.

It’s about commitment

About showing up

It’s about doing something meaningful together, making a real sacrifice, and backing something bigger than both of us.

Is raising £3,600 a huge challenge?

Absolutely.

But we’re up for it.

We’re committed. And we’re going to make it happen — one fundraiser, one crazy idea, and one sacrifice at a time

So consider this just the beginning…

Our goal for this challenge is to raise £1000 by 20th March — my birthday!

So instead of presents , drinks , or “you don’t look that old” messages …

this is my gift: helping my son take one massive step closer to a life-changing experience that will build his confidence, independence, and future
