Cutting my hair in support of Mia
As some of you may know, my beautiful niece Mia was diagnosed on the 7th of November with APlastic Aneamia which is an extremely rare form of Bone Marrow Failure. Since then she has undergone countless blood and platelet transfusions, as well as having a Central Line fitted to make treatments a lot easier. She has taken on this like an absolute champion and luckily, we have recently found 4 donor matches on the register. The best donor has consented to the transplant and once they pass their medical checks, this means Mia's treatment can go forward. She will be starting immunosuppressive therapy (Chemo) before she can undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant and it means she will be in isolation for many many months afterward.
Mia has sat through every tough hospital appointment, even the ones that have had the subject of mortality in it, taking on board everything she has been told as well as starting to advocate for herself. She is such a strong person and I love her dearly.
To show her some support and to raise money for the APlastic Aneamia Trust, I will be cutting my hair off. If you know me well, you know how much I love my hair but I love my Mia more.
Please donate if you can and share this to raise awareness for others who may be going through something similar. I would also like to invite you all to sign up for the donor register for blood and stem cells. It costs nothing but by doing so you have the potential to save a life and to be a real hero for someone and their family. If you are under 30 you can sign up with the Anthony Nolan Register @ https://www.anthonynolan.org/ and if you are over 30, you can sign up @ https://www.dkms.org.uk/
