Hi, I’m Derrick, poet and son of an awesome woman, my Ma, Nancy.

This spring was rough and broke my mom’s heart twice. In April, she lost her husband of almost 40 years. In May, she lost her husky dog Blueberry. It's a quiet house, a lot of his furniture, art from the Home Goods store, and now the place that should be her safe harbor is full of quiet reminders of who isn’t there anymore.

I want to change that. Not erase what was, but give her a fresh start inside her own walls. A little refuge.

Here’s the plan. First, I bought her a bed and.. ta dah, poetry style... ran out of cash. I want to send her down the street to a hotel for two nights so she can rest while the work is underway. Then I transform the house. Out goes some of the furniture that’s grown heavy as hell. Out goes the random stock art on the walls. And in comes a home that actually feels like her.

Instead of generic prints, I want to commission real artists to paint and draw the things Nancy loves: San Francisco, the California beach, rabbits, flowers. Original work, made by talented hands, for a woman who deserves fresh beauty around her. I’ll also hunt down vintage knick-knacks and treasures with real character, the kind of pieces that feel collected and loved, not pulled off a big-box shelf. Real furniture and a relaxing space.

How far we get depends on how much we raise:

- Enough to send Mom to her hotel and refresh a room

- Enough to commission a few original pieces and clear out the hardest reminders

- Enough to go to IKEA and FB marketplace and get furniture and turn the house into the warm, joyful sanctuary she deserves to fix her heart up good.
