On Christmas Day, while most were sharing meals with family, my 24-year-old son Curtis Anderson’s life was changed in an instant. While traveling on Highway 6 between Guelph and Fergus, Curtis was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Cox Creek. Despite having the right of way, Curtis’s car—his only means of independence and transportation—was completely destroyed.

The physical toll has been grueling. Curtis walked away with serious injuries to his neck, back, and chest, leading to a cycle of regular hospital visits, X-rays, and CT scans to monitor his spine. But the burden isn't just physical. Curtis has lived with Type 1 diabetes since he was 10 years old; managing insulin without a drug plan was already a daily mountain to climb. Now, without a vehicle and unable to work due to his injuries, that mountain has become a wall.

This intersection at Cox Creek has become so dangerous that there is currently a provincial petition and evaluation underway for urgent safety fixes(see link below). While the community fights for a roundabout to prevent future tragedies, Curtis is already living the nightmare of this "notorious" stretch of road.

Despite a police report confirming the other driver was at fault, the insurance company is making things incredibly difficult—refusing to pay for medical costs, time off, or a replacement vehicle. Curtis is a proud young man who has always tried to handle life’s hurdles on his own, but with a legal battle ahead and no income, he simply cannot do this alone. We are asking for your help to cover his mounting medical expenses and to help him find a way back onto the road so he can eventually return to work.
