Meet Kayden, he is 9 years old and suffering from Chiari 1 Malformation. Chiari 1 Malformation is a condition in which brain tissue extends into your spinal canal. It occurs when part of your skull is abnormally small or misshapen, pressing on your brain and forcing it downward. Kayden has been suffering with severe migraines several times a week, and major unsteady gait (problems with balance), poor hand coordination, neck pain,
numbness and tingling of the hands, dizziness,
difficulty swallowing (sometimes accompanied by gagging and vomiting), and speech problems (such as hoarseness). Do to Kayden’s age and severity of this malformation, surgery is absolutely necessary! He is scheduled to be at the hospital in Portland on June 10, 2021 for pre-op and Covid test with surgery being held on June 15, 2021. The procedure is called extradural Chiari decompression. This is where a neurosurgeon makes an incision in the bone and opens up the blocked passage in the skull opening to be a little bigger. If he doesn’t get the surgery his symptoms will get worse and it can become detrimental! Anyone who knows the family would say Kayden LOVES to be an all American boy who loves to ride his dirt bikes and quads and teach his little sister and little brother new tricks but due to this condition he hasn’t been able to ride or do too much of anything. Our family is asking for your help! Parents will have to rent a car since they don’t have a reliable car to make 10 hour round trip with three young children, they also need help with gas funds and their 2 week stay in a hotel for their family during post surgical recovery.
