I'm Kristina, I'm April, and I'm Jamie! We are three of five sisters in a ginormous, loving, goofy family! That's us down there with our Momma! (Right to left: Kristina, Tammy, Heather, April, Jamie...missing in action, Kelsea).
One of the greatest joys in our sister Heather's life has been the opportunity to experience the children of her family and friends, as well as the hundreds of young adults through her career of teaching and coaching.

As written in God's plan, teaching also brought Maurice and Heather together. They share the passion of molding the minds and bodies of children...simply put, they love kids! Maurice and Heather dated for two years and were married in the summer of 2015; they recently celebrated their 1st Anniversary.

Another part of God's plan, which admittedly, she questions often, is that of her infertility. How can the fun, crazy, cool Auntie be incapable of creating life of her own? Back in 2009, she woke up in the middle of the night with excruciating abdominal pain. True to the hardheaded mindset of the women in our family, she took to WebMD and diagnosed herself with everything from appendicitis, kidney stones, constipation, and food poisoning! After multiple steaming hot baths and trips to CVS, Heather reluctantly drove to the ER. After examinations, poking and prodding for hours, the attending PA provided her with a prescription for pain and directions to make an appointment with her gynecologist for an apparent growth/cyst on her left ovary that presented during an ultrasound.
And so it began...follow-up appointments lead to more ultrasounds, biopsies, and of course, the endless poking and prodding. Heather was eventually scheduled for a laparoscopy of her abdomen to remove the cyst that was causing so much pain. Once the docs entered her abdomen, they discovered the true cause of the discomfort, endometriosis. Our mother and grandmother were shown pictures of Heather’s infected, mangled uterus and ovaries. Her left ovary was covered with the displaced tissue and housed a rather large endometrioma. Due to the extent of her diagnosis, Stage 4 Endometriosis, Mom and Nana were informed that from that day forward, she would endure insurmountable pain for the rest of her life as well as potential side effects such as infertility. I can still remember the pain in my mother’s voice as she explained to us that Heather may never be able to carry a child of her own.
Over the next few years, she would endure the constant stabbing pain associated with her disease and undergo two additional laparoscopies to “clean up” the tissue. In 2013, Heather was experiencing a different kind of discomfort…after several appointments with the GYN and a subsequent meeting with a gastroenterologist, it was determined that her endometriosis had wrapped around her tubes, ovaries and colon creating a mass obstructing the lower intestine. An emergency surgery was scheduled for December 2013 in which a general practitioner, urologist, OB/GYN, and gastroenterologist performed an oophorectomy and resection of the affected colon. In layman’s terms, Heather lost her left ovary, tubes, and a portion of her small intestine as a result of the endometriotic mass. Doctors were hopeful of Heather’s right ovary function and her prognosis for future pregnancies remained a distant possibility.
So, here we are...nearly 8 years, 4 unsuccessful Intra-uterine Inseminations (IUI), and piles of fertility bills later with no child. Family and friends have prayed alongside, over, and for Heather and Maurice. After praying as a family about their next step, Heather and Maurice have decided to move forward with in-vitro fertilization. At this time our family is reaching out for not only your love, emotional support, and prayers but also for monetary support. If we can pour out just a portion of love on them to help make their dreams a reality, it will make a world of difference.
Maurice and Heather exude an incredible amount strength, unrelenting perserverance, and endless desire to be parents, we join together to help their dream become a reality. No donation is too small, or will go unnoticed. Thank you in advance for your continued prayers, love and support. Feel free to make donations here or post words of encouragment for Heather and Mo as they start on the next step in their journey towards parenthood. God bless!
