"While ICE wants to disappear us, you are finding us."
-Letter from a Central Neighborhood resident sheltering in place
(translated from Spanish)

As ICE continues to move with deadly force through Minneapolis, we are facing human catastrophe at mass scale. Immigrant households continue to shelter in place, terrified, yet making the bold and courageous choice to do so. We continue to receive an ever-growing number of requests for groceries from families running out of food, diapers and baby formula, accompanied transportation to and from work and final college exams, safe and trusted accompaniment for children to and from school, and now critical rent support.

Hundreds of immigrant families in our neighborhood are unable to safely leave their homes, afraid to step outside, terrified by the horrific actions of ICE in our city. So many families are now scrambling as lead income earners have been detained, others have employers who’ve let them go for fear that they too will be targeted, and others still with jobs they so desperately want to maintain need accompanied transportation to even try to get safely to and from work. With families pulled apart, scared, and without income - critical rent support is needed to stay in their homes.

Neighbor to neighbor, we continue to hear directly the full extent of assistance needed. The information that we’ve gathered, family-by-family, across 70 densely populated blocks, reveals an estimated immediate neighborhood need at a minimum of $162,817 for February alone. With no sign of ICE letting up, we are planning for March as well, calculating that families will require at least $330,000 to remain securely housed. With this information, and immense gratitude for your support, we increase our goal to meet our neighbors’ current needs.

Neighbors all across our Central neighborhood have come together to address the needs of the neighbors we love and who make this a place we want to live. We are moving with the kind of cooperation and collaboration that builds our collective muscles of community sustainability for the long term. In real time, we are creating the world we want and need.

Please join us as together we move forward in resistance and mutual care. Donate to keep our Central Neighborhood families housed, fed, and safe.

The Central Neighborhood Care Team (Central Care Team), is one of six strategically organized groups within a larger group of Central Neighborhood residents organizing with a twofold mission: relationship building and resistance.
