Help fund a Creative Legacy Workstation for My Mum
My mum has always been the gentle keeper of our family’s memories.
She is the one who lovingly held onto the old photo albums, the handwritten letters, and the stories that still live because she remembers them. As life has slowed down for her, her wish to pass on these memories to her immediate and extended family has become even more important.
Mum is turning 80, has Parkinson’s, as well as recovering from a recent fall that required a half hip replacement and while she receives support through her care package, many of the things she needs for a comfortable, accessible creative space aren’t covered. That’s why I’m reaching out for help.
What We’re Raising Funds For ($10,000)
We’re hoping to build a Creative Legacy Workstation for Mum — a safe, inviting, and inspiring area where she can:
- Digitise old family photos
- Record her stories, memories, and reflections for future generations
- Write, organise, and preserve our family’s history
- Engage in small creative projects that bring joy and keep her mentally active
- Continue her long-term family research
- Easily access video conferencing to connect with overseas family
For over a decade, Mum has been using online heritage databases to trace, connect, and preserve our ancestry — on both the Broadway and Hill sides of the family — reaching back, so far, to the 1600's. Maintaining this work requires ongoing annual subscriptions.
To make all of this possible, we hope to purchase:
- A new computer and display that’s clear, accessible, and easy for Mum to use
- An audio recording device for simple, comfortable storytelling with assistive technology
- A webcam to help Mum stay connected through video calls with family overseas
- Purpose designed furniture - such as a desk, shelving, drawers, and cabinets
- Good lighting and workspace essentials for safety and comfort
- Scanning equipment, to preserve photos and documents
- The heritage database ongoing subscriptions, allowing Mum to continue her decades-long genealogy project
These items, though essential to creating this space and continuing her research, aren’t covered under Mum’s care package.
Why This Matters
Mum is someone who has spent her life giving — to her family, friends, and community. She is deeply loved and warmly regarded by everyone who knows her. Her kindness, strength, and dedication have shaped our lives in countless ways.
Now, she hopes to give a lasting gift:
A legacy of stories: memories, photos, researched family lineage, and messages for her immediate and extended family — something they can treasure long into the future and along generations to come.
This creative station would empower Mum to do this in a way that feels comfortable, meaningful, and accessible. It offers her purpose, connection, and a beautiful way to share her voice and the knowledge she’s gathered over decades.
