I have played pool now and then since I was 16 years old. Between then and now, I've played about 10 years in various pool leagues.
For the past six years, I have participated as a player and team captain in two different pool leagues throughout Skagit and Snohomish counties.
Through those experiences, I have seen how pool brings people together, creates friendships, encourages teamwork, and gives people of different backgrounds a shared activity to enjoy.
But there is a growing challenge: Skagit county needs more places where organized pool league teams can play.
Recently, the establishment hosting our league play (both APA and BCA) decided to discontinue all league activity at its location, effective immediately.
This decision came while we are at the midway point of the season.
Now, three established teams need to find a new place to play within two weeks. Unfortunately, there are no viable alternatives available at this time.
The idea for opening a pool hall in Skagit county started in May 2026. Things moved slowly while I researched and gathered information. Finding resources to help were deterred, and other methods were considered.
Timing is everything.
A Place to Call Our Own
My vision is to establish Billiards Breakroom, a dedicated, all-ages pool hall where league players, recreational players, families, and newcomers can enjoy the game in a welcoming environment.
I've already found a suitable location in Burlington, Skagit County, and the property owner likes my pool hall concept.
The next challenge is securing the funding to make it happen.
Starting Small, Growing Together
The long-term fundraising goal is $75,000, but we don't need to raise that entire amount to get started.
Our first milestone is just $8,000.
With two operational pool tables, we can begin accommodating both the Sunday APA and Wednesday BCA league play. This gives us a practical starting point while allowing the facility to grow as additional funding becomes available.
The initial funding will help us secure the location and begin preparing it for league play. As we reach each fundraising milestone, we'll work toward adding more tables, equipment, and improvements to create a fully equipped pool hall.
More Than Just a Place to Play
Pool is more than a game. For many of us, it's an opportunity to get together with friends, meet new people, enjoy friendly competition, and be part of a community.
Billiards Breakroom will offer a place where experienced players can compete, beginners can learn, and people of all ages can enjoy the sport.
Rather than depending on restaurants and taverns that may change their priorities, we want to establish a place where billiards is the priority.
How You Can Help
Whether you're a league player, a recreational player, a local business owner, or someone who believes in supporting community recreation, your contribution can help turn this vision into reality.
Every donation brings us closer to securing a dedicated home for pool in Skagit County.
And if you're unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with friends, family, local businesses, and fellow pool enthusiasts is another valuable way to help.
Let's help us give our local pool community a place to call its own.
