Working together to help the hungry and those in crisis
The small Shropshire market town of Craven Arms sits within a beautiful area and has a caring community spirit, where people pull together and look out for one another.
However, Craven Arms is also one of the most economically challenged areas in Shropshire. Our rural economy has been hit hard by the current financial climate, leading to higher levels of unemployment and poverty. We also have a greater than average number of residents living with physical and mental health difficulties, alongside the recent arrival of asylum seekers being housed locally.
Craven Arms Community Food Bank exists to support neighbours facing hardship by providing essential food, hygiene items, and emergency supplies to those in crisis. We rely on donations and the dedication of volunteers. Our average monthly outgoings are around £700, covering rent, utilities and essential food purchases.
We work closely with the local medical centre and schools, Connexus and Star Housing, health visitors, Lunts Pharmacy, family support teams, and various mental health organisations. Together, we support approximately 80 adults and children each month.
We are a small charity without the benefit of major donors or a steady funding stream. With the rising number of local families experiencing hardship, we are finding it increasingly difficult to meet demand.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help us continue providing vital support to local people when they need it most. Your generosity will help ensure that no one in our community has to face hardship alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering supporting Craven Arms Community Food Bank. On behalf of everyone who relies on our service, and the volunteers who make it possible, thank you in advance for helping us continue to make a real difference in the lives of local families.
