Tanga One Resource Foundation (TORF) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO), established in 2018 and based in Tanga, Tanzania. TORF aims to:
- Empower Tanga residents to be economically productive using local resources.
- Promote economic stability for all residents.
- Prioritize cultural development.
TORF's main project to date focuses on handmade crafts at our main office in the Sisal Board building. We employ youth, women, people with disabilities, and the elderly, training them to produce handcrafts from sisal, Tanga's main crop. Sales from these crafts enable us to offer artists a monthly wage, help them open bank accounts, and give them financial literacy training.
We now seek funding to expand our operations, selling our products in various hotels, bus stations, and restaurants around Tanga, as well as at the local airport. These funds will be used to purchase shelving and raw materials for handicrafts, enabling us to generate more income through sales at these various locations and thereby support more Tanga residents with training and employment.
