CPAC Now Spring 2019!

CAARPR (Chicago Against Racist and Political Repression) is gearing up for the summer and we need your support to continue this movement.

Last May 2018, thanks to your support, we raised nearly $14,000 to grow our campaign for CPAC and win community control of the police.

Your giving and sharing mean a great deal to us because it shows us that we can't and won't be stopped.

Together, over the summer in 2018, we’ve:

Put CPAC on the agenda of all the Community Discussions About Civilian Oversight, hosted by Chicago City Council Public Safety Committee. At every one the grass roots forces spoke most loudly and clearly for real community control, for CPAC.

We mobilized hundreds to pack the courtroom for the Jason Van Dyke pre-trial hearings.  Now the trial date has been set for Sept, 5, and we’ll be there.

We’ve collected an estimated 4,000 more postcards to aldermen supporting CPAC in the neighborhoods, adding to the 52,000 already collected.

We’ve recruited and trained dozens of volunteers to organize in their communities and wards for CPAC. Our support has been built block by block, ward by ward, and neighborhood by neighborhood through our spring and summer field work.

We’ve stood with the dozens of police torture and frame-up victims that have been released at a mass rally with Angela Davis in June at Trinity United Church of Christ, and we continue to work on freeing the 100 or more torture victims.

We’ve organized speak outs led by torture victims and their families.

We’ve brought CPAC into the public schools as part of the reparations torture curriculum.

We’ve expressed our solidarity with the Palestinian, Labor, Filipino, Puerto Rican, and Latino communities.

We are on the cusp of a great victory.

We have the Mayor’s two phony proposals, the GAPA “compromise” proposal, and CPAC.  To paraphrase an old spiritual, “Everybody’s talking about police accountability but most ain’t going there.”

Only CPAC establishes true community control, not oversight, not review. And CPAC is what the people want.  This is clear.
