COVID-19 Mask Making for communities in need
Donation protected

Hi everyone, we’re a group of high school students from three school districts in St.Louis, Emily He, Jennifer Li, Roselyn Chen, Danielle Zhang, Emma Shao, Teresa Jiang. In April 2020 we set up a team called STL CRET (St.Louis Covid-19 Response Teens) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and we have been collaborating with STL COVID-19 Homemade Mask Project, which was launched in March 2020 to make and donate cotton masks to community hospitals and nursing homes due to the dire need of masks in March and April 2020. So far the community hospitals and nursing homes have received over 3000 homemade masks donated by our sewing army, and our effort was reported on April 20,2020 at https://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/health-med-fit/efforts-to-make-masks-bring-st-louis-strangers-together-for-a-cause/article_a0fa5b15-d601-5646-ab61-1b54e0a695e6.html
We did not know one another but gathered together to defend our community because of love! We used our own savings as well as funds from families and friends to buy fabrics and supply to make masks. We have been actively participating in the production and distribution of cotton masks to community hospitals and nursing homes. As the demands for face masks for both adults and children remain high, we decided to continue to make masks for communities in need, especially for children. Our mission is to support kids and their families to positively respond and adjust to rapidly changing global and local crises.
Our action plans in response to the COVID-19 crisis are as below:
1. Raise funds to provide eco-friendly face coverings to kids or any community in need
2. Provide education to increase awareness of best practices for minimizing disease exposure and improving physical and mental wellbeing
3. Spread love and offer emotional support to the elderly and other vulnerable people during this pandemic

Now it’s the end of school year, and we’re planning to utilize the summer break to make 1000 masks to help communities in need. This is our initial goal for this summer break. With the reopening of business, some people think everything is OK now. The pandemic may surge again if these people continue to ignore social distancing and refuse to wear a mask in public places like grocery stores or restaurants. So we think it's necessary to run mask drives as well as print out and distribute flyers to educate people the urgency to wear masks in public.
We need your generous help to fund this effort. Any amount is greatly appreciated. 100% of all funds go directly towards purchasing fabrics and supplies for mask making. If we end up with any remaining fund, we’ll donate it to local food banks. We’ll update the use of funds on a regular basis. United we’re strong! We will defeat COVID-19!
