Covid-19 Education Support for Jamaica

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to travel outside of the United States. When I travelled, I was particularly fascinated by the different cultures and lifestyles of each country. Even in my youth, the nature of parallel societies captivated my attention.
I was especially moved by Jamaica and the way their day-to-day life contrasted to my own. One common yet so incredibly divergent aspect that I observed between my ways and those of the children in Jamaica was education. It was eye-opening to realize that something so accessible for me could be equally inaccessible to students just like myself in Jamaica.
One of the times I visited Jamaica, when I was much younger, my family and I travelled to the Mount Airy All Age School. When I got out of the car I was filled with gratitude. I looked around and saw children running in the school yard without shoes on. All of the students at my school had shoes, in fact they had more than one pair. I peered into the classrooms and saw three kids sitting at one desk. My school had a desk designated to each person. I glanced at the walls and saw crumbling plaster. The walls in my school were unblemished and sealed.
I can only imagine the circumstances Jamaican children are facing now. Since the Covid-19 pandemic erupted across the world, students all over have had to adjust their learning styles. Many schools have changed their curriculum to fully remote, while others are attempting a hybrid model. For Jamaica it is more complex. Since most of their schools are fully closed, a majority of families do not have access to the necessary technology or are struggling with acquiring the essential resources that schools once provided for them. These communities are suffering, they cannot equip their kids with the vital supplies that they need to learn and are scrambling to accommodate their children with daycare and even food.
This inspired me to start this fundraiser. I am looking for people to support children in need. I am looking for people to support education. I am looking for people to support unity and growth. It is crucial for our communities to unite and build each other up during these unprecedented times. Let's start this construction with the building block of education in Jamaica. As we assist this country, we will work together to advance education worldwide. Let us begin an ongoing cycle of aiding each other. I hope that contributing to the kids who want an education and deserve to learn inspires you to contribute to other communities facing difficulties as well as your own.
100% of your contribution will go directly to support education in Jamaica.
