COVID-19 resources for the Tulsa Burmese community

The Burmese American community in Tulsa is one of the largest in the United States, totaling about 8,000 members. We are a community of immigrants and refugees; the majority of the community are Chin, also known as Zomi, a (Christian) religious and ethnic minority group from Chin State in Myanmar.

The community is at the frontlines of COVID-19, with outbreaks occurring across multiple factories in Tulsa due to the state's passive response and these companies' unsafe working standards. In order to aid the Zomi community in Tulsa, we (a group of college students and recently graduated college students) are raising money to put together packages of gloves, masks, and translated CDC guidelines in Zomi language, which is the language the majority of the community speaks.

We are hoping to order the masks and gloves as soon as possible, and we're hoping to be able to distribute to at least 500 community members. By the end of June, we hope to be able to mail these packages to households in Tulsa, Oklahoma from Ann Arbor, Michigan (which is where the packages will be put together).

We would be grateful for any support. I (Dim) have had close family members who were diagnosed positive for COVID-19, which is what prompted me to act. We hope you act too.

If you are a Zomi person in Tulsa in need of COVID resources, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/vM1bkXXdXqAKXhG79

We are currently working on a translated form in Zomi!
